sony premier earbuds

Sony has announced its new WF-1000XM3 earbuds which will launch in August for $229.99. The WF-1000XM3 is the successor to the WF-1000X which launched in 2017 and had its share of flaws. From syncing issues to the inability to provide noise-canceling sound led to WF-1000X’s failure.

Sony wants to perfect noise-canceling earbuds

The new M3 earbuds have a better fit, are more stylish, very minimal signal loss and much-improved battery life.

Sony’s M3 earbuds are much sleek compared to its predecessor. Each earbud has a circular area for touch controls. Users can adjust noise cancellation with the left earbud and audio playback with the right. M3’s provide a nice deep bass, crisp vocals, and some of the best audio to come from earbuds.

Sony has transitioned its Quick Attention mode from its 1000X headphones: resting your finger over the left earbud temporarily enables ambient audio for however long you hold it there; once you let go, the noise cancellation comes right back. This is useful for moments when you need to hear announcements or grabbing a brew at your local coffee shop.

The right earbud offers general music controls: tap once to pause/play, twice to skip to the next song, and three times to go back. Similar to competing earbuds, M3’s will not feature volume controls.

How do Sonys new earbuds compare to others

Sony claims it has improved the active noise cancellation on the M3’s compared to the original WF-1000X. Compared to earbuds like the AirPods which let in surrounding sounds by design, the M3’s provide a noticeable difference when traveling between crowded subways and busy streets.

The accompanying charging case is pretty nice, it’s around the same height as an AirPod case, but much wider. The earbuds fit nicely inside, held in place magnetically. Sony’s use of numerous lights to clearly indicate charging status, this is something that PowerBeats Pro owners can appreciate.

Sony’s 1000XM3 will cost a little more than Powerbeats Pro, with AirPods, Galaxy Buds being much cheaper compared to the $230 Sony M3’s. There is still much appeal, music enthusiast and travelers will appreciate the technology and quality of sound Sony’s premier earbuds offer.
