matthew mcconaughey

There is only one Matthew McConaughey. The Texas legend is now even considering a run in politics in the future and has a best seller on the charts right now.

Here is a look at a few of his top movies in case you wanted to see the cream of the crop. We promise our list is “alright, alright, alright”.

5. Contact (1997)

Robert Zemeckis’ Contact brought McConaughey into a supporting role to Jodie Foster’s main protagonist and is a key reason that the movie is considered a recent classic in the sci-fi genre.

Foster is at the center of the movie as she tries to prove that alien life exists and try to “contact” it.

McConaughey’s role is of a charming Christian philosopher who questions Foster’s beliefs about science and God.

This role helped really launch McConaughey into the limelight as a leading man moving forward.

4. The Wolf Of Wall Street (2013)

Though McConaughey’s time on screen is very short in The Wolf of Wall Street, he does a lot with it. Martin Scorsese casts him perfectly in his role of the senior broker Mark Hanna.

He plays a man who has been there, done that and proves to be the inspiration for Leonardo DiCaprio’s Jordan Belfort, as he bangs his chest and chants.

McConaughey’s Hanna is one of the more memorable scenes in a movie full of them, and though you may only get your quick scene with the veteran actor in it, the payoff is well worth the wait.

3. Dazed And Confused (1993)

Dazed and Confused was a landmark movie for McConaughey and a number of other actors including Ben Affleck, Parker Posey, and Milla Jovovich.

It doesn’t hurt that it is directed by Richard Linklater and features the memorable “alright” line that McConaughey has become to be known for using.

In the movie itself, McConaughey is a young adult in his 20s who still chooses to stay around those who are in high school.

It is a coming of age story about the last day of school in 1976 and has been regarded as a cult classic in the years since its release. This was truly McConaughey’s breakout role.

2. Interstellar (2014)

Another excellent McConaughey movie that was also critically acclaimed was when he worked on this 2014 space thriller, Interstellar with director Christopher Nolan.

Nolan chose McConaughey to star in his first movie after the Dark Knight movies, and it puts McConaughey in a very emotional role as a father.

His character is a pilot who works for NASA and goes on a very important mission.

The emotional twists and turns throughout the movie are worth a watch and the movie also has some other strange twists that really surprise anyone watching.

It is a deeper, heavier McConaughey movie that is one of his best.

1. Dallas Buyers Club (2013)

Our top pick came out just a year before the #2 one, and it is the role in which McConaughey won an Oscar.

This is of course Dallas Buyers Club and McConaughey portrays AIDS patient Ron Woodroof in his best role to date. He smuggles drugs to help both himself and Jared Leto’s trans character, Rayon.

The role puts McConaughey right into the thing he is most known, a cowboy-type from Texas, though it also includes a large transformation on his part physically as the movie continues.

Leto also delivers an excellent supporting take on his role and he was also rewarded for it with an Academy Award, too.
