TikTok and Sony Music will continue the partnership and co-promote music together

Social networking service TikTok and Sony Music Entertainment have agreed to a new licensing deal that will allow the popular video service to use Sony Music’s catalog.

Specifics of the deal are fairly scarce, though it comes as good news for fans of the service and popular music.

The deal will not really change a whole lot inside of TikTok, but it does represent a major agreement by the company during a tumultuous period.

This is another significant deal for the company as it has attempted to reach agreements with the major record companies and other musicians after its huge growth in popularity.

The reason for this is of course so that the short-form video service is able to provide a wide library to its users from some of the world’s biggest artists both past and present.

As part of the deal, TikTok will be paying a fairly significant amount more to Sony Music than it did in the previous licensing deal.

In addition to the deal, the two companies clearly have vested interests in the success of one another and will help to promote specific artists and personalization within TikTok.

This is not the first deal or agreement TikTok has signed by any means. Previously, the company agreed to a deal with a large number of independent labels called Merlin.

The company also is seeking to close out deals with other major players in the music industry, Warner Music Group and also Universal Music Group.

These two companies represent a huge percentage of popular music in the United States.

TikTok had reached deals with these three major companies earlier in 2020 but they were for shorter periods.

The company is seeking a longer, more drawn out agreement and it appears they have accomplished that with Sony Music to kick things off.
