playstation 5 release date

Sony released PlayStation 5 details and specs

We have known for a while Sony has been developing a new console to follow-up PlayStation 4. We finally have some insights into when the future gaming console will be available according to an interview at Wired.

Sony is promising that the PS5 will support 8K graphics, 3D audio, super-fast SSDs, and backward compatibility with existing PlayStation 4 games. Game streaming services are also something Sony is planning to incorporate in the PS5.

The new gaming console isn’t just a spec upgrade of the PS4 like the PS4 Pro was. There’s entirely new hardware inside the PlayStation 5, including an eight-core CPU based on AMD’s third-gen Ryzen line built on the chip company’s latest 7nm Zen 2 process and a custom GPU based on AMD’s Radeon Navi hardware, which will bring ray-tracing graphics to a game console for the first time.

The end result of all those hardware improvements: the PS5 will support 8K graphics, assuming 8K TV’s will be out then. Sony is definitely gearing up for a long term console, potentially longer than the PS4.

PlayStation 4 came out in 2013, the console has yet to let down players in either gameplay or processing. The company is promising that when the PS5 rolls out, it’ll be a slow transition, with multiple new games releasing for both the PS4 and PS5.

Sony will not be participating this year at E3, so it’s very unlikely the PlayStation 5 will make an appearance.

When is PlayStation 5 coming out?

There’s still no release date for the PlayStation 5, but it is confirmed that the console will NOT be hitting the market in 2019.
