‘Kingdom Come’ for Zion and Jordan Brand

Zion Williamson’s sneaker deal has been a focal point since he started dunking over fellow high-schoolers. Basketball fans haven’t been as captivated in a young baller since the great Lebron James.

Zion Williamson took to Instagram to announce that he has signed to Jordan Brand on a 7-year, $75 million dollar deal. No word yet on if this will result in a signature line like that of Carmelo Anthony.

Nike, Puma and New Balance were all top contenders for signing the young phenom. Jordan Brand didn’t seem like a likely landing spot, many were assuming Zion will go with Nike for the money and their global presence.

Jordan is looking to add some life back into the brand, with Kawhi’s departure and the outdated lines of Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony, both of whom are at the end of their careers.

Zion and MJ spoke about their future together. Williamson states “I feel incredibly blessed to be a part of the Jordan Brand family,” he continues “Since I was a kid, I dreamed of making it to the league and having the type of impact on the game Michael Jordan had and continues to have today. He was one of those special athletes I looked up to, and I really can’t express how happy and excited I am for this journey.”

MJ added, “He’s an essential part of the new talent that will help lead the brand into the future. He told us he would ‘shock the world,’ and asked us to believe him. We do.”

Getting Michael Jordan’s trust is not an easy feat. It’ll be fun to see how this partnership develops over the next 7 years.

The next biggest sneaker moment surrounding Zion Williamson is when will he get his signature line? Will he get one of his or will he sport the flagship ‘numbered’ line (Air Jordan 33) just as Kawhi did?
