“Call of Duty” is a highly popular video game franchise that has been around since 2003. While the early games were solid sellers, the series has gone to a completely different level in recent years. The last two retail games in the franchise were the top-selling video games of 2020.

The free-to-play “Warzone” map also continues to grow in popularity. Fans of the addictive shooter got great news earlier this week when a new installment in the series was announced.

The new game will be called “Call of Duty: Vanguard.” After years of focusing on modernized warfare, the upcoming game will return the franchise to its World War II roots.

Developers Sledgehammer Games have stated that there will be an increased emphasis on the single-player story campaign. The campaign will tell the stories of multiple soldiers in one of the first special forces units in US history.

Fans of the fast-paced multiplayer action that made “Call of Duty” famous do not have to worry. “Vanguard” will offer a total of 20 new multiplayer maps when it launches. There will also be a new multiplayer mode called Champion Hill.

This will pit solo players and teams of two or three directly against each other in a tournament-style bracket. Win the first matchup to move on. This will continue until there is only one player or team sitting at the top of Champion Hill.

The other huge announcement during the recent reveal is that “Call of Duty: Vanguard” will be implemented into “Warzone.”

A new battle royale map using the weapons and locations of World War II will be included in a free update to “Warzone” shortly after the new game launches later this year. Thanks to upcoming tweaks to the anti-cheat system, the entire experience should be fairer for everyone playing.

While they did not give out many details, Sledgehammer Games has also confirmed that there will be a new zombies mode included in the upcoming game that connects with the story told in last year’s “Black Ops Cold War.”

Video game fans will get to return to World War II when “Call of Duty: Vanguard” becomes available to purchase on November 5. The game will be playable on the Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5 and PC.
