Frozen 2 has the biggest global debut of any animated film

Disney’s Frozen 2 created a global whiteout with its box office debut, grossing an estimated $127 million debut domestically and $350.2 million worldwide, according to studio estimates Sunday.

Deadline reports that Frozen 2 has jumped past the competition to fasten itself as the largest-opening animated film of all time. Grossing $350.2 million worldwide since opening on Friday, with $223.2 million coming in from 37 international markets.

Domestically, the film only grossed $125 million during its opening weekend! People all over the world really love Frozen, due to its great writing, amazing characters, and its unique musical score.

While other Disney franchises like Star Wars might not be as popular overseas, Frozen is proving to be a reliable franchise that has mass appeal, beyond the states.

China raked in $53 million, being the 3rd best-animated debut of all-time and the best Disney animated debut. Korea, on the other hand, followed suit with a $31.5 million opening. Japan trailed behind, followed by Germany, and a bunch of other countries making up the rest of the 37 international markets.

Frozen 2 brings back much of the talent behind the original, including the voices of Idina Menzel (Elsa), Kristen Bell (Anna) and Josh Gad (Olaf). Also returning are songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, though the music this time hasn’t been as well-received as the original soundtrack. Directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee return, Lee is now the chief creative officer at Disney Animations.

It’s safe to say the Frozen franchise is just getting warmed up!
