Saint Patrick’s Day, or the Feast of Saint Patrick, is a cultural and religious celebration held on 17 March, the traditional death date of Saint Patrick, the foremost patron saint of Ireland. Though St. Patricks day can be celebrated everywhere, here are the best cities to celebrate Saint Pattys Day!

Chicago, Illinois

The Chi doesn’t mess around with the pride of the cities Irish Heritage; the city goes as far as dyeing the Chicago River green.

Once the Chicago River is fully green, celebrations continue with a parade, complete with bagpipers and Irish dancers. Think eventual escalate into massive, lively street parties in the areas surrounding Grant Park and Division Street.

Savannah, Georgia

The Southern coastal city of Savannah has paid homage to St. Patrick since 1824. Savannah dedicates a full week of St. Pattys festivities, leading up to an energetic parade on Saturday. Thousands of people make their way to the town’s grassy squares, setting up tables and chairs, as the city’s Forsyth Park fountain flows green. The party doesn’t stop there, if your up for it enjoy some of the many local Irish Pubs!

San Francisco, California

Annually more than 100,000 people attend the San Francisco St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The festival takes place the weekend prior to the holiday and features huge floats, Irish dancers, bagpipers, and other musicians. The parade is accompanied with a festival which features more live music and Irish grub, along with an ample supply of brew.

New York City, New York

All New Yorkers need is a reason to drink and they will! Since 1762, New York City has gone all out green on St. Patrick’s Day. The city’s annual holiday parade is the world’s biggest, with 150,000 people participating and around 2 million more lining the parade route along Fifth Avenue. The elaborate parade features bagpipers, Irish step dancers, police officers and firefighters, school bands and others. Head to one of New York City’s many Irish pubs after the parade to keep the party going!

Boston, Massachusetts

The Irish pride and heritage run deep in Boston, which makes the St. Patricks Day Celebration legendary. The St. Patrick’s Day parade takes place in South Boston, typically on a weekend because of the massive crowds. More than 1 million people line the route to watch floats, marching bands and bagpipe bands from both Ireland and the United States. The festivities continue into the night at one of the many Irish Pubs!
