The Sega Genesis Mini will cost $79.99, will include 40 games

Retro consoles have been growing in popularity in the past couple of years. In 2016, Nintendo released the NES Classic and followed up with the SNES Classic a year later.

Sega Genesis Classic Game Console Returns!

At Sega Fes 2019, Sega announced that it will release a retro version of its Sega Genesis console. The Sega Genesis Mini will come with 40 built-in games and will hit stores on September 19th later this year.

In the late 1980s, a shift in gaming occurred. Companies wanted to bring the arcade to the living room, starting a new age of home gaming. Sega Genesis is the very first 16-bit console system and was designed to combat the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). In 1991, Nintendo owned the lions share of the market thanks to the Super Mario Bros franchise, Sega finally found a game that resonated equally as well, “Sonic the Hedgehog.” Designed primarily for American audiences, “Sonic” was a fast-paced and innovative platformer and an instant hit. Soon gamers were buying the 2-year-old console primarily to play the trending game.

Here are some of the games that will be included; Altered Beast, Castlevania: Bloodlines, Comix Zone, Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine, Ecco the Dolphin, Gunstar Heroes, Shining Force, Sonic The Hedgehog, Space Harrier II, and ToeJam & Earl. Additional games will be announced over the next couple of months.

The Genesis Mini will come with a pair of three-button USB controllers, the console itself will be able to be plugged into any modern TV.

With a price tag of $79.99 and 40 included games, the Sega Genesis Mini is a must-have!
