In 2018, the attacks targeted over 100,000 PCs all over the world, which is double the number from 2017. According to a report by Kaspersky Lab, the malware threat is based on anonymized customer data taken from antivirus products.

What cyber attacks to watch out for..

The malware can deliver itself as a Trojan virus that masquerades as a porn-related program or file. The malicious processes will monitor what webpages the user opens over a PC and collect the credentials by creating fake login pages to porn sites that’ll secretly record whatever is typed into the password fields.

To protect yourself, it’s wise to avoid installing anything that comes from a questionable porn site or any type of unusual URL. You should also be wary of clicking emails that appear to come from legitimate porn providers such as Pornhub. It’s possible the email could be a phishing scam designed to send you to a malicious website. Hackers have come a long way and are pros at mimicing popular sites, so always have your guard up!
