sony ps5

After the launch of the PlayStation 5 this past week, many people have been unable to actually get their hands on the system itself through an online retailer.

The console came out with a great deal of enthusiasm and anticipation, but unfortunately the demand has far outmatched the supply.

One thing that Sony did was decide not to sell the console via the traditional retail outlets when it was launched, but rather the company decided it would be available only on the Internet.

This was of course due to the coronavirus pandemic in an effort to avoid large crowds and long lines.

This meant gamers would need t preorder the console several months ago through an online retailer. Some of these retailers include Best Buy, Walmart, Target, and others.

At approximately 12 pm EST on launch day (November 12) there was a massive rush of customers, much like when a popular concert goes on sale.

Walmart’s site crashed, while users were sent a message telling them the store had too many shoppers at one time.

Since then, it has become known that many of these “customers” were actually bots that were specifically made to circumvent anything and everything related to the sale.

These bots were created with software and are able to purchase many high-demand products at a very fast pace. They typically work faster than any actual human being can navigate.

The reason for this is because these consoles can then be purchased and then easily resold to those who were unable to grab them at the on-sale date.

Currently, some PS5’s are going for upwards of $1,100 for the $500 version and $900 for the $400 one.

In this case, the demand certainly has dwarfed the supply, and those who want their PS5’s during the busy holiday season are now forced to either wait for the system to become more widely available or pay up now.

Bots are anything but new and are used in the aforementioned ticket industry as well as more recently in the sneaker resale sector.

Retailers do often have their own software to fight these bots, but they are becoming more and more sophisticated and have been emulating true human activity in recent years.

So if you are still one of the unlucky to have a PS5 yet, there may be a waiting period.

The good news is that Sony released the popular new console during the holiday season and it knows the demand will be huge especially as people are forced to stay indoors because of the pandemic.

Good luck, shopper!
