Disney has created mass popularity with its creation of the character ‘The Child’ commonly referred to as Baby Yoda in the Disney Plus television series, “The Mandalorian.”
With this new adorable Disney character, the company has created Baby Yoda merchandise including toys. This release came four months after the premiere of the popular television series.
The merchandise includes one called “The Child: Animatronic Edition.”
Baby Yoda was first seen in the first episode of “The Mandalorian.” Viewers were overwhelmed with the cuteness and the nostalgia. Yoda was an original character in the original Star Wars trilogy and a fan favorite throughout the entire Star Wars prequels.
Baby Yoda, since he surprised viewers, has become a sensation across all forms of media. He was trending on all social media. He was trending on Google search results as well with the many memes created about him.
Disney shared the news about the new Baby Yoda toys before the American International Toy Fair. They specifically shared the information at the Disney Star Wars toy showcase. This event occurred in New York City on the Thursday before the fair.
There were many merchandise items included in the preview of the upcoming release. These included Mandalorian and Baby Yoda action figures and dolls.
There were also Lego sets based on the television series and board games as well.
Finally, there were apparel items with Baby Yoda front and center including shirts, hats and other types of clothing.
The most popular merchandise item at the showcase was “The Child: Animatronic Edition” that was mentioned previously.
This is a Baby Yoda toy that will move, make noise and blink. The noises it makes include laughing and cooing, the same noises Baby Yoda makes on the television series.
This toy had not been released officially at the time of the showcase but was available for pre-order across America. It costs $59.99.
Hasbro created this animatronic Baby Yoda toy. Hasbro actually is licensed to make Disney Star Wars toys.
Lucasfilm, who produces Disney based Star Wars media, has been working on getting a license as well.
This will allow the producers to create even more Disney merchandise about Baby Yoda, for the excitement of fans of Baby Yoda and “The Mandalorian.”
Many individuals attempted to find Baby Yoda toys as gifts for the holidays.
Unfortunately, there were none found at the time. This further propelled the excitement associated with Disney’s release of the newest merchandise.
The creators of the television series convinced the company of Disney to not make Baby Yoda toys until after the holiday season.
This allowed for no spoilers to be released to individuals who had not yet watched the show and was to not ruin the surprise of Baby Yoda showing up in the first episode.
In December, Disney did begin to create Baby Yoda merchandise. The production companies, who were third party, set out to make plush toys and clothing items with Baby Yoda front and center.
The life-size, animatronic Baby Yoda will not be available until the spring. It was displayed for preorder at the end of January officially. After the release of this merchandise, many fans of the show became pleasantly surprised and supremely excited.
Disney did take a risk in not creating Baby Yoda toys and merchandise for the holiday season. They probably could have had immense success in sales and revenue if there were Baby Yoda toys available around the holidays.
The toys during the last holiday season were not as exciting as years past, and Baby Yoda could have been a major excitement in the toys section.
Lucasfilm has been working nonstop to keep up in creating enough Baby Yoda merchandise for customers.
There has been a huge demand for the merchandise since it was released. As soon as pre-orders occurred, production began. There were toys created and ready for pre-sale within three weeks from the announcement date.
“The Mandalorian” is the most popular part of the new Disney Plus streaming service. In some ways, it has kept the streaming service afloat.
Baby Yoda has had a significant amount to do with the show’s tremendous success, due to the enjoyment of his character and the surprise of his appearance.
Now that season one has passed, fans are anxious for the second season.
Thankfully, the second season is set to begin in October and will be available for viewing on Disney Plus.
