Several of the motifs of the original trilogy return in The Matrix: Resurrections directed by Lana Wachowski.

There are several clues to the direction The Matrix: Resurrections will take, including a timeline that will shift between different eras. Laurence Fishburne was reportedly not asked to return to the role of Morpheus, with the younger Yahya Abdul-Mateen II taking over the role.

Among the aspects of the trailer that will excite long-term fans of the franchise is the return of a woman with the white rabbit tattoo on her shoulder. The meeting between Neo and Trinity taking place after they have aged adds to the intrigue about how the action will move forward.

The traditional story of what is real and what is simulated through a shifting timeline opens up several possibilities to whet the appetites of fans.
