For anyone who might have longed for a Jon Stewart appearance and a funny joke or two after his run as host of The Daily Show, today is a day of excellent news.

The popular comedian will be back in action with a new TV series in partnership with Apple TV Plus.

The new series will primarily center around actions Stewart has taken in advocacy areas and also embrace “topics that are currently part of the national conversation”, according to Apple representatives.

In addition, each episode will have a specific focus and will be a “current affairs series” in the words of Apple.

The format may sound a bit like Last Week Tonight, which is hosted by another long-time Daily Show alumni, Jon Oliver. The show will also feature a podcast in tandem with each episode, according to Apple representatives.

As of now, there is no name for the show or an actual release date. However, various sources maintain the show will launch at some point in 2021 while the episodes will not be released either nightly or weekly.

One thing that has been confirmed by Apple is that the show will run for more than one season, however, there has been no actual statement of how many episodes that might entail.

Apple hopes that it can generate at least a few new subscribers to its Apple TV Plus series based on Stewart’s legacy and iconic presence in comedy.

Much has changed since he left The Daily Show, and many of Stewart’s proteges have moved on to host their own shows.

The most diehard fans of the comedian will also want to note that Apple agreed to a deal with both Stewart and his company in charge of production that could potentially mean there are different shows featuring Stewart in addition to this one.

Obviously, Jon Stewart’s own personal experiences with this new show will likely dictate if another show of some kind occurs, but for now many will be happy to see a comforting and critical face back on television fairly regularly.
