There is a lot of great things about the iPhone XR. It’s not the camera, processing or the animojis.
It’s battery life! Battery life is something people complain about, if nobody is bringing it up, then it simply isn’t an issue. The XR battery life is great, charging is never a concern, unlike the previous versions. User have claimed to not charge their phones at all during the day and even leave it uncharged through the night.
Great battery life didn’t stop Apple from announcing a new Smart Battery Case for the iPhone XR. The Smart Battery Case, which is also available for the iPhone XS and XS Max, sells for $129, comes in black or white, and is designed to dramatically extend the time you have before you have to plug your phone into a wall charger.
The iPhone XR version of the case extends talk time to 39 hours (from 25), internet use to 22 hours (from 15), and video playback up to 27 hours (from 16). That’s a significant jump from the XR’s already impressive stamina.
The design is pretty similar to the previous models for the most, it just has a longer hump that extends to the bottom of the phone. It’s hard to sugarcoat the fact that the case adds a lot of thickness and weight to the phone. The silicon material of the case also makes slipping the phone in and out pockets a little irritating.
The new cases do offer some neat features like ‘fast-charging’ for both the phone and the case. The 5W brick will charge the phone first while the 10W or 12W will charge both case and phone at the same time.
The cases have a lightning port on the bottom that supports data and audio pass-through in addition to charging. You can plug Lightning headphones or a headphone dongle into this port or plug your phone into a computer or car system for CarPlay without having to remove the case. It behaves basically the same way as the Lightning port that’s on the phone.
The main purpose of the case is to add battery life and this iPhone accessory does it very well. Most users are able to get a full 36 hours with active everyday use. These numbers line up with a lot of the other battery cases on the market, but the Smart Battery Case offers full iOS integration, intelligent charging, and the ability to pass data and audio.
