iPads will be one step closer to being a game console

Apple will soon offer Xbox and PlayStation 4 controller support for Apple devices. iPhones, iPads, and even Apple TV will soon get the luxury to be compatible with Sony and Microsoft game console controllers.

This is a huge feature, as of now, MFi Bluetooth controllers are the only option for Apple devices. Being able to easily connect any PS4 or Xbox One controller to your device can be a subtle shift in how Apple approaches mobile gaming.

A lot of the benefits of this feature will be for iPads, give that they are insanely portable and have a big screen.

PS4 vs Xbox One

PS4 DualShock 4 controllers will fully support Bluetooth, for Xbox, you’ll need to make sure your controller is Bluetooth supported.

Pairing the controller is the same process as any other Bluetooth device, most games that already support MFi controllers will easily detect the console controllers.

Sony’s PS4 Remote Play app now supports native DualShock 4 controllers, thanks to iOS 13. Streaming games from your PS4 directly to your iPhone or iPad and playing with your controller is now a seamless process. This is a good step if you want to play PS4 games remotely, Microsoft has yet to off this kind of support for Xbox games.

Apple TV console controller support

Controller support will also be able to sync to Apple TV, allowing you to play supported games on a bigger screen. With companies like Sony, Microsoft, and Google are all focusing more heavily on game streaming services; Apple is putting itself in a good position to easily adapt.

The companies above have yet to commit their streaming services to run on an iPhone or iPad just yet.
