Earlier this week, Disney+ announced that its long-awaited Boba Fett-centric series, The Book of Boba Fett, would be premiering on the streamer on December 29.

The series was first announced in a post-credits scene in the final episode of season two of The Mandalorian.

While not much is known about The Book of Boba Fett, a short synopsis of the series reveals that it will follow Fett and his ally, the mercenary Fennec Shand, as they take over the territory once controlled by the crime lord Jabba the Hutt on the desert planet of Tatooine.

The synopsis further teases that Fett and Shand will have to contend with other threats from across the galaxy in the Star Wars underworld.

Fett has been a favorite character for many Star Wars fans since he first appeared in the 1980s The Empire Strikes Back. Regarded by many as an icon of the series, Fett seemingly died in the mouth of the Sarlacc Pit in 1983’s Return of the Jedi.

Although many comic books and novels revealed that he survived his encounter with the Sarlacc Pit, it was not until last year’s premiere of The Mandalorian that Fett’s return became canon in the franchise.

The Mandalorian gave Fett a redemption arc. In addition to saving the life of his new ally Shand, Fett also helped rescue Grogu, better known as Baby Yoda, from an Imperial remnant led by Moff Gideon.

In addition to The Book of Boba Fett, Star Wars fans have much to look forward to on Disney+ in the near future.

A miniseries following the adventures of Obi-Wan Kenobi between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope is expected to premiere in 2022. Andor, a series following Rebel Alliance superspy Cassian Andor, is also expected to premiere in 2022.

Meanwhile, new seasons of The Mandalorian and the animated series The Bad Batch are also in production with premiere dates estimated for late next year. Rounding out new productions is a series following the former Jedi Ahsoka Tano, who made her live-action debut in season two of The Mandalorian.

Fans interested in new content can also check out Star Wars: Visions, a 9-episode anthology series produced in anime style.
