Apple Cancels AirPower Wireless charger

Apple has decided to cancel its AirPower wireless charger due to the difficulty in achieving the company’s “high standards”.

With all that’s going on with Apple, this isn’t too alarming, considering they launched a set of new devices and services.

“After much effort, we’ve concluded AirPower will not achieve our high standards and we have canceled the project. We apologize to those customers who were looking forward to this launch. We continue to believe that the future is wireless and are committed to pushing the wireless experience forward,” said Apple SVP of hardware engineering Dan Riccio in a statement.

Apple first announced the AirPower charging mat during the company iPhone X event in September of 2017. The charging mat was supposed to ship sometime in 2018 but the company went silent for over 18 months.

AirPower has been plagued with reports of engineering challenges and overheating issues related to the multi-coil design.

Don’t count AirPower out yet, but no signs of shipping in the near future.
