Many people can often tell that there is something special about the successful people around them, but they cannot usually tell what is so special about these people. The world’s most successful CEO’s all have something about them that allows them to accomplish the successes that they have. These traits are usually shared among all successful CEO’s and have allowed for each CEO to prevail when faced with failure.
Persistence
Persistence is the most important trait that all successful CEO’s share. On the path to success, one is oftentimes faced with numerous failures and rejections. It is persistence that allows someone to continue striving towards their goals.
Clear Vision
A successful CEO usually has a clear vision of the things that they would like to accomplish. A clear vision also allows for someone to be persistent when they encounter rejection or disappointment. Vision is also what helps someone see the end to a goal when obstacles stand in the way of those goals. Elon Musk is a clear example of a CEO that maintained a clear vision. Despite a large majority of investors, financial analysts, and media mentioning that Tesla would fail, Musk continued to maintain his vision and create the vehicles that he believed consumers needed.
Communication
A successful CEO needs good communication skills in order to effectively spread a message among a team of people. Communication allows for a team to operate uniformly and efficiently when times are stressful.
Risk
It takes a large amount of risk to build a company from scratch, with financing from your own pockets. Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg is a CEO that absorbed risk and found ways to decrease the amount of risk that Facebook was taking when starting; whether this is through a partner or public support.
Patience
It takes a lot of time to turn an idea into a solid product. Patience is required to avoid quitting when the going gets tough. Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon, was very patient when building his company. Bezos, while worth billions, operated his company out of a modestly sized and furnished office.
Conclusion
Successful CEO’s differ from each other in a variety of ways, but there are many key traits that are shared among them. The top CEO’s of the world battled through many obstacles to actualize the visions that they had. Many of these traits go hand in hand with one another and must be practiced daily to become natural.
