mandalorian-epsidoe review

“The Prisoner” is the 6th installment of The Mandalorian, Disney Plus’s first live-action Star Wars adventure. We must say, this episode could be one of the best of the season.

Every episode so far has been its own contained storyline. This week packed all the fun of a motley crew, plus a bit of sabotage for good measure. Here’s what you missed on weeks 6 of The Mandalorian.

Once again, we join the Razor Crest as the Mandalorian seeks out another job. This time the job is with an old acquaintance, Ranzar Malk. Ran and the Mandalorian have done shady business in the past.

This is a jailbreak heist, and the team has already been assembled. Mayfield (Bill Burr comedian and Breaking Bad actor), Xi’an the Twi’Lek (Natalia Tena from Game of Thrones and Harry Potter), Burg a Devaronian (Clancy Brown from Cowboys & Aliens and Rebels) and a droid referred to as Zero (voiced by Richard Ayoade). The first catch, besides the Mandalorian’s hesitance to work a droid, is that this team needs to use the Razor Crest.

Since the Razor Crest is untraceable by the New Republic and Imperial tracking, it makes the ship the perfect heist vehicle.

Once onboard the ship, the mismatched team continues to hassle one another. Burg looks in areas that belong to the Mandalorian and continues to question his helmet.

It is only during a squabble between the two that baby Yoda is seen for the first time. The rest of the wayward team do not know at this point that the child is a wanted bounty. Before any questioning about the baby Yoda, the Razor Crest lands on the prison transport ship. It is time for the real heist to begin.

With Zero watching the floor plan, Mayfield asks the droid to disable all security as they make their way to the control room. Various species are seen locked behind bars of the prison ship.

Burg’s insistence at firing at a mouse droid is the tip-off to security that causes more shots to be fired. Living up to being the toughest in the galaxy, the Mandalorian defeats all the security droids singlehandedly.

Once they finally make it to the control room, a nervous Republic officer (Matt Lanter of The Clone Wars) is the only thing in their way. Xi’an kills the guard before any resolution can be found.

Finally, the prisoner is revealed. His name is Qin, and he is another Twi’Lek (played by Ismael Cruz Cordova). With Qin’s release comes the twist in the episode as the bunch turn on The Mandalorian.

In true Mandalorian fashion, The Mandalorian escapes from his capture.

After disabling the communication between Zero and the others, The Mandalorian begins his game of cat and mouse. With emergency lights on, the group splits up. Their focus is on defeating The Mandalorian.

Of course, with a large battle scene with Burg, it looks for a moment as if Mandalorian might lose the battle. After pulling out all attempts, the Mandalorian finally cuts Burg in half with the bay doors. After a knife showdown with Xi’an, and sneaking up on Mayfield, the Mandalorian makes Quin believe he has killed the others.

During all this excitement on the ship, Zero has been alone with the baby Yoda. After hearing the commotion in the back of the Razor Crest, Zero finds the child and aims his gun. The Mandalorian kills Zero from behind before he can harm the baby Yoda.

The Mandalorian returns Qin to Ran to collect his bounty before taking off aboard the Razor Crest.

Ran instructs Qin to kill the Mandalorian. This is when the tracking beacon that the Mandalorian placed on Qin is found. Three T-65 X-wings are seen flying straight for Ran and Qin.

The X-Wings being flown by three of the previous directors of prior “The Mandalorian” episodes: Rick Famuyiwa, Deborah Chow, and of course Dave Filoni.

Closing out the episode the Mandalorian gives the child the ship piece he’s been playing with as they set off on another adventure. The team from the episode is seen locked up in a cell upon the transport jail.

The next episode of The Mandalorian is December 18th.
