Spotify latest redesign

Today Spotify announced that it will be giving its app a redesign to add extra emphasis to podcasts. A new version of its “Your Library” section is being rolled out to premium subscribers.

Podcasts are important too

The goal is to make it easier for users to move between ‘Music’ and ‘Podcasts’ along with easily discovering the right podcast episodes for you.

The update will allow users to swipe or tap to switch between music and podcasts. The podcast section features three sections to help users with management:

  • Episodes
  • Downloads
  • Shows

Episodes

Discover new episodes or resume podcasts you’re already listening to, picking up where you left off. The new user experience prioritizes your in-progress episodes, so as you scroll down further you’ll find additional new episodes from the shows you follow.

Downloads

The download tab simply helps you manage the episodes you saved for offline listening.

Shows

This is where you can manage the podcasts/shows you follow and check out all released episodes. The shows tab ranks podcasts based on whichever ones have the newest episodes.

This year, Spotify has decided to go all in on podcasts! They believe podcasts have the ability to shift radio advertising over to its app by offering more intuitive targeting.

The company recently acquired Gimlet, Parcast, and Anchor along with investing in original programs. Additionally, Spotify announced personalized playlists that will combine music and podcasts in hopes to deliver a unique streaming experience.

What new with the Music section

The Music tab has been revamped to get users the content they want instantly. Originally users would open the app and be initiated with a list (Playlists, Stations, Songs, Albums, etc.), now you’ll now be placed directly into the Playlist section.

Spotify’s redesigned app is much easier to navigate and the update is long overdue considering the direction the company is heading in!
