Panasonic’s Lumix S1H review

Panasonic’s line of Lumix mirrorless cameras is hailed as the go-to choice when someone wants to create a crisp video on a budget.

Lumix continues to be big on mirrorless cameras

The $4,000 Lumix S1H is a juiced-up version of the highly praised Lumix S1. The S1H is a full-frame shooter which records 6K video at 24fps and claims to be the world’s first full-frame camera to do 6K/24p at a 3:2 aspect ratio or 5.9K/30p at 16:9.

Though being able to shoot in 6K the increase in resolution capability should be a huge help for people shooting 4K too, as it will allow them to crop or apply video stabilization without losing image quality. With a wide dynamic range of 14+ stops in the Lumix S1H, owners can indulge in low light shooting, capturing detail in extremely dark or bright sections of a scene.

Panasonic has not yet specified if the S1H will have in-body image stabilization like the S1 and the high-resolution S1R, considering the camera is designed for film image stabilization is very likely.

Even with a $4,000 price, the S1H is really undervalued. A 6K mirrorless camera of this caliber should be upwards of $5,000. The Lumix S1 offered fast performance, vivid images, and exceptional user experience. It is safe to assume the Lumix S1H will be another winner for Panasonic!
