foldable smartphones are the future of mobile tech

Samsung’s announces that it has made the necessary fixes to the Galaxy Fold. The flexible phone was slated to go on sale in the US until April 26, but a handful of review units started breaking down after a couple of days.

The cause of the faulty Galaxy Folds stems from removing a layer of film users were not meant to remove.

Here are the changes Samsung made to the updated model of the Galaxy Fold:

The top protective layer of the Infinity Flex Display has been extended beyond the bezel, making it apparent that it is an integral part of the display structure and not meant to be removed.

Galaxy Fold features additional reinforcements to better protect the device from external particles while maintaining its signature foldable experience.

The top and bottom of the hinge area have been strengthened with newly added protection caps. Additional metal layers underneath the Infinity Flex Display have been included to reinforce the protection of the display. The space between the hinge and body of Galaxy Fold has been reduced.

Initially, many reviewers thought the layer of film was a screen protector and tried to peel it off, in return damaging the screen. By extending the protective film layer Samsung was able to solve a lot of their problems.

Samsung went on to add additional reinforcements by reducing the space between the hinge and the body. This minor means the world of difference, debris will have a harder time getting into the Galaxy Fold which can damage the screen from behind.

Co-CEO DJ Koh ultimately admitted that the company pushed the original Fold out to market “before it was ready,” adding that “it was embarrassing.” In the competitive foldable tech industry reviewers dictate what’s hot and what’s not. Samsung got ahead of the Fold’s problems before it shipped to consumers but reviewers could not hold back their frustrations with the premature product.

Samsung has confirmed the price of the Galaxy Fold will remain the same as before – $1,980 and will release sometime in September!
