JJ Watt recently announced that he signed a two-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals. The deal is worth $31 million with a $23 million guarantee.

Watt will reunite him with star Wide Receiver DeAndre Hopkins and land him on one of the youngest teams in the league.

The Cardinals have been improving, but primarily on offense. Adding Watt could help secure their defense and make them a bigger threat in the NFC.

This announcement might have surprised some people because Watt had earlier updated his Peloton bio with the following: ‘SB56…GB…CLE…BUF.”

Of course, this led fans to believe he was heading to one of those three teams. However, he later tweeted: ‘i don’t own a bike. stop.’

The Pittsburgh Steelers also looked like a possibility because his brother, TJ Watt, was trying to get him there.

There were some subtle online hints by both brothers that this could happen, but it never gained any real traction.

The truth is that JJ Watt wants to be on a team that can contend for a Super Bowl Championship.

He likely doesn’t see the Steelers in that light due to a confusing QB situation, and he asked to be released from the Texans because they were in a rebuilding stage.

The following is JJ Watt’s quote after being released from the Texans: “I have sat down with the McNair family and I have asked them for my release. And we mutually agreed to part ways at this time.”

He went on to say that he came to Texas as a kid from Wisconsin and now couldn’t imagine life without Texas.

He talked about how well he was treated by fans other than being booed on draft day. He was the No. 11 overall pick in 2011. He has since won Defensive Player of the Year three times.

Watt’s stats haven’t been as impressive over the past two years, which could relate to injury and reduced passion for the Texans. Time will tell if he gets back to his former self on the Cardinals.
