Baby Shark video hits more than 7 billion views on YouTube

7 billion views is an extraordinary number by all means and is the number of YouTube views the “Baby Shark” video has garnered over the years.

This gigantic number makes it the most watched video on YouTube to this day.

“Baby Shark” is of course well known for its cheesy yet kid-friendly music that began as a campfire song and was produced by Pinkfrog, an educational company from South Korea.

The video went on to go viral and has been a running theme or joke to an extent. The song has been used in countless other places, including the theme song for the Washington Nationals’ World Series team in 2019.

The popular music video overtook another incredibly popular one, “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee. “Despacito” came out in 2017 and has also achieved incredible chart success in the process.

“Baby Shark” rose rapidly on YouTube moving from “only” 2.5 billion views to the current number above 7 billion.

This means the video nearly tripled in views in less than a year to overtake “Despacito”.

Other top music videos include “Shape of You” by Ed Sheeran (5.05 billion views), “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa (4.8 billion), “Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars (3.99 billion), and of course, “Gangnam Style” by Psy (3.8 billion).

The sheer number of views the video has reached really speaks to the magnitude of YouTube’s size too.

It sits at the second-highest website online when it comes to global internet engagement, only trailing Google, which is the site’s parent company.

There is no telling how high “Baby Shark” will climb, and it is certainly a unique aberration in a sense to now claim the top spot.

It seems clear that plenty of people clearly haven’t been hit with Shark fatigue just yet.
