apple tv streaming service

Apple will reveal a new strategy for services, the event will unveil updates for Apple News as well as Apple TV.

According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, it sounds like the company has been negotiating with premium channels HBO, Showtime, and Starz to offer a standardized $9.99 monthly subscription per channel.

Also being slapped with a $9.99 price tag is the updated Apple News, and will likely charge for access to original content, which has been rumored to be free to Apple users.

What to expect from Apple TV

Apple is ready to offer some insights regarding its original content. Apple’s new shows will live on a new TV app and will require an extra fee. Premium channels like HBO, Showtime, and Starz will also be offered at an extra charge at $9.99 per channel. If accurate, that’ll be a discount for channels like HBO and Showtime, which respectively charge $15 and $10.99 a month. Starz charges $8.99 a month.

Netflix and Disney will not be part of the platform, though they did consider acquiring both streaming platforms in the past.

Apple has also been busy negotiating with manufacturers to bring the streaming service to Roku and smart TVs. Apple recently announced that it was bringing iTunes to a number of smart TVs, opening Apple’s programming to new audiences. As Apple jumps into the original content market, it will face numerous competitors, such as Amazon, Disney, NBCUniversal, and Netflix, all of which are producing their own exclusive content or are in the process of launching their own platforms
