guardians-of-the-galaxy-vol-3

If the previous films are anything to go by, it is evident that James Gunn always aims to evoke profound emotions along the way.

The Guardians of the Galaxy is packed with numerous gags. However, there is only one joke in the new trailer.

In other words, this might be a two-and-a-half-hour-long, somber, depressive episode, or maybe they are saving the best stuff for the theater. But the movie sure has an impressive style that works. Let us see how James Gunn’s final production works out.

Sad Man Drinking

The trailer begins with Chris Pratt (Star-Lord) drinking heavily in a dingy space bar (perhaps on Knowhere).

The latest Guardians Holiday Special does not paint him in a great light. Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper) is also present, probably trying to talk some sense into Peter Quill. Or is he here to steal Quill’s spaceship? Well, it could be both!

Together Again – All the Guardians United

We see the entire team boldly walking away from an explosion. Interestingly, the gang is now using their Lanning-era uniforms, except for Gamora and Groot. If you had forgotten that Peter was still hung up on Gamora, the trailer would jog your memory with a flashback to the very first film.

The teaser also shows Gamora and Peter wearing prison jumpsuits. Quill announces that he is Star-Lord, that he formed The Guardians, and fell in love with a girl who later died. He then tries comparing Gamora 2 to Gamora 1.

It still needs to be determined where the exact prison The Guardians and Gamora were sent to, and we also don’t yet understand what is in Quill’s hand. Also, why did Karen Gillan (Nebula) have to rip off her cybernetic sleeve?

The Mad Scientist in Counter-Earth

The trailer takes us to earth- or counter-earth. Based on previous trailers, the suburbs in counter-earth are full of humanoid two-legged animals, probably due to the High Evolutionary.

We have our first encounter with Chukwudi Iwuji (the High Revolutionary). The mad scientist is obsessed with genetic experimentation and uses cutting-edge technology to create half-human, half-animal creatures called the New Men.

We see the Bowie, The Guardians’ ship entering an imposing fortress, probably to meet the High Revolutionary.

Various shots feature The Guardians running through a cancerous growth in space. Mantis supports an injured Drax as Gamora deals with a mysterious enemy, and the team attempts a prison break.

Somber – More of Rocket’s Flashbacks

The trailer gives numerous shots of the sad, helpless, and distressed Rocket. However, it does not provide the origin of the story.

In the story, we see Rocket experimented on in his home-world (Halfworld) comics to attain sentience. Ti’s revealed that it is not the Halfworld Comics that performed the experiments on young Rocket but The High Evolutionary.

She Is Not Who I Remember

The trailer fronts Peter Quill’s feelings and frustrations about Gamora. However, there is one exciting relationship we would have loved to see- that between Gamora and her sister. The Gamora-Nebula relationship in Guardians 2 was incredible.

Unfortunately, the narrative is eliminated here, especially after Nebula got a lot of character development.
