Mac gets a surge of upgrades

Apple is having a busy 4th quarter. The company released a new software update for their iOS and iPad devices and there have been multiple updates initiated to fix some issues that arised after installation. There are still some problems that came from the software update that Apple has yet to fix but we can hope that the solution is coming soon.

The good thing about software updates is that, for the most part, you have the opportunity to opt out of the update and wait to see how it affects everyone else’s devices before you install the software update onto your device. So should you wait for the update that will fix all of the bugs or should you just go ahead and update your device?

Though, there are some things that have shifted with the MacOS update. It is completely your choice to install the update now, or wait for the bugs to be fixed. But I’m going to list the changing features and other new things you can expect from the Catalina in this new update.

The Death of iTunes

First, no more iTunes. With everyone switching to streaming services, iTunes is becoming irrelevant and a waste of time. So in this new update you will not find iTunes but instead a lot of different Apple streaming apps. For those who still download and store music, your tracks will continue to be present in the new Apple Music app.

Apple Arcade

Apple Arcade on the Mac includes many of the same titles that are available on other platforms like iOS, iPadOS, and Apple TV. The best thing about Apple Arcade is that your progress syncs with iCloud so you can pick up where you left off across all Apple devices!

Apple Arcade is that it’s completely ad-free, and most importantly there are no traces of pay-to-win, in-app purchase games. Apple Arcade puts the power back in the gamers hands!

The Introduction of Sidecar

SideCar, for this feature you will need an iPad to get use out of it, but if you own an iPad this feature will likely become your favorite. SideCar allows you to use your iPad as an alternative screen display so it will act as a second monitor. If you need two monitors open for work or if you just want to have your videos streaming on one side and work on the other, this app will allow you to do so.

Screen Time Management on Catalina

And then you also have Screen Time in your settings. This feature is one that can help you keep track of how much you use your Mac and where you spend your most time. This feature comes in handy for a lot of people in a lot of different lines of work and play so you might get some good use out of it as well.

Where Catalina needs improvement?

But with all pros, you also have the cons list. One of the downfalls that you should be aware of with the MacOS Catalina, there is an overbearing security feature that will come up constantly. It is there to warn you of harmful software and other things that might get into your device, but it’s a bit excessive with considering there mostly false alarms.

There is also the learning curve around the new media apps, Catalina turned Mac users world upside down with the demise of iTunes. It will take a little longer to get use to this OS update but got to love the direction Apple is going in!
