Good news for fans of the classic game: Minecraft is coming to PS VR on Playstation 4.

Better yet; the upgrade is completely free to everyone who already has Minecraft downloaded on their PlayStation. The update will be available to all players later this month.

This is not the first time Minecraft has been combined with virtual reality, having been released for Occulus Rift back in 2016.

Since then, Minecraft fans on Playstation have been asking for VR on Sony’s own VR hardware.

Minecraft developer Mojang Studios announced in a blog post on September 7th that this wish was soon to become a reality.

Mojang assures players that the experience will be “100% the same” as the Minecraft players know and love with “nothing removed”.

Players will use the PS4 controller to move and interact with the world, all the while looking around them using the PS VR headset.

Mojang also stated that the game will have two separate modes: Immersive and Living Room. Mojang has not yet provided details on what these different modes will entail.

Everyone who has Minecraft already purchased in the PlayStation store will automatically get the update, they will just need to download the patch in order to have full access to the VR experience. PS VR hardware is required to use the new features.

Minecraft is a sandbox game that has soared in popularity since its initial release in 2011.

Sales of the game continue to rise even now, 9 years after its first release.

In fact, earlier this year, Microsoft, which acquired Mojang Studios back in 2014, said sales of the game now topped 200 million across all platforms.

Minecraft allows players to explore a blocky, randomly-generated world. It focuses heavily on exploration, crafting, and building.

Players can choose to explore the world by themselves or cooperate with (or compete against) other players in the same world via internet connection.

There are several modes to enjoy; including survival mode, creative mode, adventure mode, spectator mode, and hardcore mode.
