chicken McGriddle

Calling ALL McGriddle Lovers!

The McGriddle has always been something of a curiosity in the McDonalds breakfast menu.

The breakfast sandwich was introduced in 2003 and consists of fried bacon, a scrambled egg flap, and American cheese between the two maple-flavored griddle pancakes.

Like other Micky D’s breakfast menu items, it’s only available during a specific window during morning hours. Likewise, one often sees McGriddle variants appear and disappear similar to the quick transition of breakfast to lunch.

This comes as no surprise, people often see McGriddle variants appear and disappear. Even the McDonaldland character, the Griddler, disappeared from advertising almost immediately after it first appeared.

Fans of the McGriddle know to expect the unexpected.

Chicken & Waffles-like McGriddle is one of the more recent examples of this phenomenon. This delicious take on an established classic had a trial run in Florida. Then it just disappeared like so many other McGriddle’s of the past.

Unlike many of those lost classics, we finally have a chance to really appreciate the Chicken & Waffles recipe. It’s poised to launch all over the US with a new name.

Introducing the Chicken McGriddle

Interested fans of breakfast treats will be able to find it under the new moniker of McDonald’s Chicken McGriddle.

But any fan of breakfast foods knows that doing it right means adding some more complexity to the flavor. Biscuits are the traditional pairing for many breakfast foods. And McDonald’s has taken that in mind with the McChicken Biscuit.

The McChicken Biscuit Will Join The Chicken McGriddle

This food pairing is poised to enter all major markets in the US in January. One should keep in mind that this isn’t an official announcement though.

The McGriddle just wouldn’t be the McGriddle without an extra air of mystery. And that’s not changing just because this is set to be a more stable menu item.

The news of the Chicken McGriddle’s launch came from leaked internal documents.

The air of mystery doesn’t stop with the source of the information either. Again, one should always expect some exclusivity with the McGriddle. Even when the news comes about as an announcement of non-exclusive items.

In this instance, it comes down to another variant. This one is so mysterious that it doesn’t even have a name attached to it yet.

Some unannounced locations will have an extra twist on the Chicken McGriddle.

Which McGriddle is right for you?

Just as the name isn’t known the exact locations for its release aren’t either. But at least some locations across the US will be treated with not just the Chicken McGriddle, but a spicy version of it as well.

Both variants should be quite similar in their basic structure. Crispy and breaded chicken patties with either pancake style or biscuit-style buns.

The often ephemeral nature of the McGriddle might distract people from another question though.

Why did McDonald’s decision to offer a fried chicken breakfast all over the nation? Market analysts theorize that breakfast and chicken alike are a new battlefield for fast food retailers.

Of course, the fact that McDonald’s is jumping into a competitive new market raises a lot of questions.

Most of the competing fast-food chains already have some form of chicken in their breakfast menu. Chick-fil-A has been serving its famous chicken and biscuit sandwiches for years, with acclaimed reviews.

McDonald’s has had recent notable issues trying to compete against Popeyes sandwich offerings in particular. However, McDonald’s has some impressive name recognition.

The lure of a stable McGriddle selection alongside a spicy version in select markets might be the combination that draws in a huge crowd.

It’s just a matter of seeing how the public reacts to the lure of maple syrup, chicken and biscuits. And of course just how much buzz and interest the extra spicy versions might bring.
