Each January, CES brings together tech industry leaders, newcomers and attendees worldwide for a multi-day trade show. This is the place to be if you want to preview new technologies that will soon change the world.

CES 2024 kicked off on Tuesday, January 9th, with major brands like Samsung, NVIDIA, Asus and Apple setting the stage. The Las Vegas event runs through Friday, January 12th, and is set to feature 4,000 exhibitors and more than 130,000 attendees.

Here are some of the announcements and previews:

NVIDIA’s RTX 4080 Super Card

NVIDIA is releasing a trio of RTX 40-series Super GPU cards: RTX 4080 Super, RTX 4070 Super and RTX 4070 Ti Super. All three will be priced at or below existing cards, with the RTX 4080 Super going for $999.

Features to expect in the January 31st release include NVIDIA’s Full AD103 chip, more CUDA cores and faster 736 GB/s bandwidth, with the same 16 GB of G6X and 320-watt power rating.

The RTX 4070 Ti Super also features increased memory, an upgraded 256-bit memory bus, more CUDA cores and up to 10% more performance than the original RTX 4070 Ti.

Samsung’s Rolling Robot Projector

Samsung’s Ballie robot, first presented at CES 2020, is back and better than ever. Ballie is now a projector with sleek in-built casters that let it follow you around. It’s also AI-equipped to handle smart home requests, from answering phone calls to feeding your pet.

Samsung’s preview video showed Ballie displaying video calls on a wall, casting a video of a bird for a dog to watch and showing a workout video to someone exercising. It also showed Ballie turning on lights, texting someone and dispensing dog food.

According to Samsung, Ballie can adjust the projection size and angle based on your distance from the wall for optimal viewing. The robot can also control air conditioners, laundry machines and more.

Asus Foldable Portable OLED Monitor

Asus introduced the ZenScreen Fold OLED at CES 2024, giving viewers a glimpse of its first foldable OLED monitor. The big portable monitor is designed to be carried around easily without breaking. Asus positions the monitor as a productivity tool for those who work on the go.

The monitor has a wide 17.3-inch screen and folds up like a book using a water-drop hinge resembling the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. This diminishes the visibility of the screen crease.

Asus’s foldable monitor also has a 9.7-mm profile when unfolded and only weighs 2.65 pounds. Other highlights include a 2560 x 1920 sharp-display resolution covering 100% of the DCI-P3 color space and the DisplayHDR True Black 500 spec. Connections include USB-C, Mini HDMI and a tripod hole.

MSI’s Handheld Gaming PC

MSI’s new handheld Windows gaming PC, the Claw, offers better ergonomics and battery life than the infamous Asus ROG Ally. The handheld gaming machine comes at the same starting point of $699, shared by the ROG Ally and Lenovo’s Legion Go. According to MSI, the Claw features an Intel Core Ultra, which offers better performance and battery life than AMD.

The design also features bigger, comfier grips and various similarities with ROG Ally, including the shape, port placement, 7-inch screen, 120Hz 1080p IPS screen and near-identical button placement.

Differences also exist, including the ability to map an Xbox button and the anti-dead zone that reduces joystick oversensitivity. Other highlights include Wi-Fi 7 support, AI noise cancellation and Hall effects joysticks.

CES 2024 offers many other exciting devices and technologies, including the Samsung Display Flex In&Out, Apple’s Vision Pro VR headsets and Honda’s Zero Series thin electric vehicle.
